DIY Air Conditioner Cleaning

How to disassemble and clean wall mounted air conditioner?

Curious about how to clean the wall-mounted AC yourself without consulting the company?

I’d like to clean this wall-mounted AC from face plate to cross flow fan.

Wall mounted air conditioner Cleaning Process :

1. Disassembly

2. Body Cleaning

3. Part Cleaning

4. Assembly

1. Disassembly

Open the face plate.

Take out the filtering net inside the plate.

Separate the coverplate on the right side. (The cover plate)

Separate the louver.

Separate the three screws in the outlet part.

Take out the middle frame.

If you lift the bottom of the frame slightly, the jammed part of the top can be easily separated.

The upper part is easily removed because it’s interlocked with plastics without a set screw.

The inside of AC with the middle frame removed.

I’ll separate the cross flow fan to clean the outlet part and the evaporator assembly.

Separate the two screws on the left that fix the evaporator assembly.

Separate the screw that fixes the outlet part.

Take out the part slightly. Make sure not to drop the right side.

Separate the plate that fixes the evaporator assembly.

To separate the cross flow fan, loosen the screw (not separate it fully!) inside the bottom right of the fan.

Use a flat screwdriver.

Separate the axletree on the left side of the cross flow fan. (The axletree)

Lift the evaporator assembly slightly and pull the flow fan out to the left.

The inside is black and dirty!

Separated parts :

Cross flow fan

Filtering net, Louver, Cover plate, Screws, Face plate

2. Body Cleaning

Spray 99% alcohol on the evaporator assembly.

Wipe it with wet tissues.

So dirty like this!

Spray the alcohol all over the body and its inside and wipe off thoroughly.

Use a tool to clean the inside parts that are difficult to reach.

While cleaning, hold firmly the right side connected to the cover plate to avoid falling off.

Wipe the inside of outlet part, too.

Put the outlet in place, inserting.

Also wipe off the wing parts underneath the outlet.

So I finished wiping off every corner of the outlet part.

It’s not easy to separate the evaporator assembly and the outlet from the body.

So lift the outlet only on the one side with the other side fixed and wipe thoroughly as much as you can.

This wet tissue is clean now and no more dirts, right? Finished the main body cleaning~!

3. Part cleaning

With water, clean the parts except the cross flow fan.

Clean the face plate using a brush.

Wipe with water.

Using the brush, clean the louver, and wipe with water.

The filtering net, too.

Like I’m doing, shake it off so that the wet filter dries out quickly.

Now, let’s prepare for a detergent to clean the cross flow fan!

Mix baking soda, vinegar, and dish soap in a 1:1:1 ratio.

Mix baking soda and dish soap first.

Don’t put in vinegar - when you add vinegar, it will bubble up immediately!

Baking soda 100g

Dish soap 100g

Vinegar 100g (Prepare it in another bowl.)

To clean the fan, I prepared a kimchi mat with a cleaning tool - I don’t make kimchi using this mat ;-)

I'm gonna put the fan, hot water and the detergent in this mat and rinse the fan after a while.

To put the fan and water in the mat, adjust the mat size using clothespins.

Put in hot water.

To hold water in the mat, use a cord.

Now, it’s time for mixing this detergent with vinegar.

So bubbly!

Pour the detergent all over the fan mixing with hot water.

Rotate the fan and let it sinked in hot water.

Soak up the stains of the fan over 10 minutes.

While waiting to soak, wipe the cleaned parts with a cloth.

After 10 minutes, rotate the fan so that is is completely soaked with detergent.

Then wait for another 10 minutes.

Now, another 10 minutes has passed. Remove the pins to start cleaning the fan~!

This kimchi mat is incredibly useful To clean something putting water in it!

Wipe the fan with a brush.

Next time, I would use mold remover to get rid of this dirty, stubborn stains and molds!

Put out the fan and drain the water.

Clean the kimchi mat and wipe the water - I won’t make kimchi with this mat~ ;-)

Wipe the fan and pour water onto it.

Shake off water from the fan, wipe well, then dry it with a hair dryer.

4. Assembly

Lift the evaporator inside and put in the cross flow fan.

Make sure the hole side in the flow fan goes inside.

Connect the hole on the side of the fan to the body.

Fit the axletree in the protruding part on the left side of the flow fan and attach them to the body.

This is how the flow fan is attached to the body by connecting the axletree into the fan.

Plug the plate into the evaporator and connect them to the body.

Press the evaporator firmly to the body.

With two screws, connect the plate attached to evaporator with the body.

Tighten the loosened screw inside the flow fan and fix it to the body.

Use a flat screwdriver.

Now you can see a tightened screw inside the fan!

So assembling the cross flow fan is complete!

The drain tube is on the right side and must be assembled correctly.

Tighten the left screw to fix the outlet part.

Connect the face plate with the body.

First align the top of the plate with the body, then push the bottom.

On the bottom, push with bump~

Connect the cover plate to the body.

Rotating 3 screws at the bottom of the face plate, connect the plate with the body.

Hang the filtering net onto the body lightly.

Attach the louver to the outlet part.

Insert the right side of the louver first~!

Align the middle.

And insert the left side. Be careful not to break the louver!

Close the lid of the face plate. Finished cleaning the wall mounted AC!

Now, shall we turn on the completely clean AC?

It works just normally and moreover, the coming air is incredibly fresh and clean!

So easy, right? Cleaning wall-mounted AC at home is not that difficult. This summer, try it yourself!
